Joanne Davis founded Joanne Davis Consulting, Inc. in 2000. The consulting firm specializes in strategic communications and message optimization and presentation, business development and sales coaching. In five years, consulting clients include and have included Bausch and Lomb, BlueCross BlueShield, Colonial Pipeline Company, Federated Department Stores (Macy’s), Fidelity Investments, Ford Motor Company, IBM, Interpublic Group of Companies, Jim Beam Brands, Merrill Lynch, Miller Brewing Company, Office Depot, Smith Barney, Subway Restaurants, Vanity Fair Apparel and Wilmington Trust Company. She spent 18 months working for the U.S. Department of Defense on best practices for communications and over a year with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and Trust Company on communications optimization, and several months with the law firm of Holland & Knight.
Joanne has done extensive work with senior executives including Founders, Presidents, CEOs and Managing Partners to fine-tune and craft their written and spoken messages to internal and external audiences.
Her work for several professional services firms has included group business development workshops for Managing Partner, Senior Partner and Partner levels as well as one-on-one presentation coaching including collaborating on the content and delivery of the “pitch.”
A popular speaker and writer, Joanne speaks regularly for the Association of National Advertisers, American Association of Advertising Agencies and the American Advertising Federation.
She has led workshops for senior executives on four continents on Winning More by Putting Yourself in the Shoes of Your Audience.

Prior to founding Joanne Davis consulting, Joanne spent 20+ years as either an agency owner, president, board member or in management in domestic and international advertising and marketing communications agencies including Bozell Worldwide (a top ten US agency at the time), Wells Rich Greene (a leading creative agency), OMON (an international creative boutique) and DDB (a top ten agency).
During her agency career, Joanne helped build brands and businesses for clients including Chase, Mobil, IBM, Xerox, Ray-Ban, Andrew Jergens Company and Toyota. In her global business development capacity she helped her agencies with double-digit growth in new business from clients including Bank of America, IBM, Philip Morris, MCI, Sheraton, and Verizon.
She is on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of The Advertising Club of New York. She is a former President of The Club and Chair of the Foundation. She was selected by the Advertising Age as one of the "25 Women to Watch" in the first year of the awards program and profiled by USA Today as one of the five best woman rainmakers.
She is writing a book on What Clients Want based on her deep experience in listening with all her senses to client needs.
She holds a BA in English from the College of New Rochelle and also studied at the Graduate School of Business at NYU. Joanne and her husband, Bruce Matthews, live in New York City.
